In TetraPak Pakistan’s board production factory, three polymer layers are installed by a laminator on the board surface for protection and decoration purposes. These layers are overextended by few millimeters across the board to ensure complete layers without any defects and this overextended polymer layer width is called the Trim. In the Production process, it is preferred to minimize the Trim width to save Polymer volume. For this purpose we have designed a system for TetraPak based on Image Processing that calculates this Trim width to keep a check on the wasted polymer volume. The trim width by our system is then inputted back to the laminator in a feedback manner, to decrease the overextended trim hence saving the polymer volume used and as a result, the total cost of production of boards.
